Temporary Touring Exhibition Program Presenters enhance the experience of guests exploring the touring exhibition by managing the entry, engaging in dialogue about the exhibition, facilitating demonstrations, and providing a safe, efficient, and enjoyable environment. Responsible for following safety guidelines and required procedures for all exhibit components.

This is a temporary assignment from mid-February 2025 through September 7, 2025.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILIITES:

TEAMWORK:

Maintain excellent working relationships with other staff including volunteers. Be aware of and adhere to CSC mission, vision and values.

Assist in the overall functioning of the team, training staff, and helping to ensure a successful science experience for those visitors the museum reaches.

Be the front-facing source of action by contacting the appropriate people when medical or other emergencies occur (security, managers, etc.), knowing where emergency equipment is stored, and being familiar with proper emergency procedures.

Maintain equipment/supplies in the area of assigned duties by proper use of equipment, assistance in simple cleaning activities, and continual attention to the state of the equipment in use.

PROGRAMMATIC:

Engage visitors presenting science programming to audiences and others via the use of science floor demos, presentations, and explanations of the science and/or behind the exhibits.

Provide excellent customer service to visitors by assisting with problem solving and crowd management.

Stay current with new exhibits and programs in the Science Center to better facilitate customer service matters.

Lead formal and informal training of fellow team members and volunteers.

COLLABORATIVE:

Advise the CSC Teams as applicable to the overall needs for development, growth, programming, and operations of the Departments and the Division.

Maintain professional growth in science education and participate in required trainings.

GENERAL PROGRAM PRESENTER I LEVEL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Actively seek professional growth opportunities and keep abreast of new and emerging technologies, techniques, and applications within both the science/technology field and the museum field to grow professionally and to ensure the highest-quality experience for visitors at CSC.

When required, serve as a representative of your department, always championing CSC’s mission and the interests of CSC staff and visitors.

At all times, uphold CSC’s Four Keys of Operation: Safety, Courtesy, The Experience, and Efficiency; interact with all colleagues in a professional and respectful manner in accordance with CMP Core Competencies and CSC Community Norms.

Serve at all times as an exemplary advocate for and model of Carnegie Science Center’s values and policies related to Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion, and act in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision.

Work collaboratively with other CSC departments and/or Carnegie Museums components to eliminate programmatic silos and create a holistic visitor experience.

Perform basic departmental duties and other activities as required by your supervisor.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Background in science, education, theater, communications or customer service is preferred but not required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Strong communication skills.

Demonstrates excellence in customer service and problem-solving.

Positive attitude and love of learning.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to navigate the exhibit space and attend to visitors and exhibits/collections while standing and walking for extended periods of time. Will require physical activity - bending, lifting, sitting, and turning.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

Weekend and weekday availability required. Occasional evening hours assisting with events required.
