SUMMARY:

Responsible for the maintenance, planning, preparation and implementation of technical elements and systems for the Scottsdale Arts performance spaces. Provides support to the theater technical department as assigned or directed by supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Under direction of supervisor)

1. Responsible for setting up, coordination and operation of lighting, staging, and audio equipment in all venues, in coordination with the production team.

2. Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of designed and installed lighting, video, sound, and fly systems.

3. Leads all installation and maintenance of performance based video systems for Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.

4. Maintains theatrical equipment by ensuring proper intervals of maintenance through documentation and communication with supervisor.

5. Provides recommendations through research and industry knowledge for all equipment, projects, and capital improvements.

6. Responsible for gathering quotes and executing purchases for technical theatre elements in coordination with the Production Manager.

7. Assists in the budgeting for fiscal year expenditures including maintenance expenses, equipment purchases, and capital improvements.

8. May lead the work of technical over hires and contract labor in the implementation of events and/or maintenance shifts.

9. Oversees the training of technical staff and contract laborers in the implementation of events and maintenance.

10. May serve as crew for various performances as assigned. Positions may include stage hand, stage manager, lighting designer, audio engineer, and video technician.

11. Maintains productive & positive relationships with outside vendors, including negotiating arrangements for Scottsdale Arts as business needs dictates, and coordinating with outside vendors for the training and implementation of new equipment.

12. Ensures safe and proper working conditions at all times, complying with all local and national labor & OSHA laws.

13. As assigned, represents the Technical Department at internal and external meetings.

14. Implements and maintains industry-standard safety and theater management practices used by all members of the technical staff and over-hires, with an emphasis on safety and performance excellence, including but not limited to appropriate dress code attire and grooming practices.

15. Maintains and updates SDS regulations in the virtual binder and informs Production Manager of any changes. Ensures when updates are performed that staff (including over hires) are aware of the changes and documents training as required.

16. As assigned, serves as liaison and coordinator advancing details for specific events with internal clients, outside contractors, artists, rental clients, and other stakeholders to provide the best possible experience for both the artist and the patron.

17. Provides oversight and recommendations regarding the overall technical operations and improvements for Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.

18. Performs other duties as required.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre or equivalent experience.

2. Experience: Minimum 4 years’ experience in lighting, sound or stage technician role.

3. Attributes:

• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of set-up and operation of lighting, staging and video required; audio and rigging systems desirable. Knowledge of, and ability to perform, industry-standard stage management duties and best practices.

• Certification required for DCP system: Barco Certified Specialist – Installation and Basic Maintenance, and Barco Certified Operator.

• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, visiting artists and the general public.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

• Proficiency in all major areas of concert production: management, backline, video, lighting, rigging, general safety operations.

• Ability to operate sound, lighting and rigging equipment and personal computer.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

• Knowledge of and ability to operate current audio and visual software highly preferred, including but not limited to: QSC QSYS Software, L’Acoustic Network Manager, Soundvision, Professional DAW software (Pro Tools, Logic, etc,), Digital Console Software (AVID, Mackie, Allen & Heath, Midas), Wireless Microphone Systems, Clear Com Communications, Q-Lab show control software, BARCO Commander and Communicator and Vectorworks.

• Must be proficient in operating and installing digital consoles and analog consoles and able to changeover between multiple consoles.

1. Other requirements:

• This position requires the use of personal or Scottsdale Arts vehicle on Scottsdale Arts business. Must be physically capable of operating the vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.

• Current CPR and AED certification required

• 18 years of age or older
