GALERIE XII is located at the Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica, California. Founded in Paris in 2007 by Valérie-Anne Giscard d’Estaing, the gallery expanded to Los Angeles in 2018.

Focusing on narrative photography, the gallery champions artists with a strong narrative sensibility and supports innovative, multidisciplinary practices.

The Santa Monica gallery space, larger than its Paris counterpart, allows for expanded programming, including exhibitions by emerging artists working in painting and sculpture.

The Sales Manager would be joining a small team in our Santa Monica location, responsible for all aspects of managing, driving, and maintaining artwork sales, including:

Responsibilities

Sales and Client Relations

  • Engaging Visitors: Driving sales by engaging with clients and walk-in visitors, understanding their preferences, and providing detailed information about the works and artists on view through an engaging, personal lens.

  • Client Management: Building and maintaining relationships with collectors, artists, and other stakeholders; providing viewings, offers, and previews as needed.

  • Sales Outreach: Creating and managing contact lists, continually expanding and updating them via outreach and research.

  • Sales Management and Coordination: Managing every step of the sales process until closing, including client follow-up, price negotiation, sending high-res images and captions as requested, and coordinating shipping and framing as needed.

  • Shipping Coordination: Finding lowest costs on all shipping, producing invoices, and tracking deliveries.

  • Inventory Management: Keep track of artworks, including their condition, location, and sales status. 

Customer Service

  • Visitor Assistance: Engaging with all walk-in visitors, and providing information and assistance as needed.

  • Feedback Collection: Gathering feedback from clients and visitors to improve gallery services.

  • Delivery Service: Hand-delivering sold items to local clients and assisting with installation as needed.

Onsite Handling and Installation

  • Installing artwork using proper art handling techniques.

  • Handle, load, secure, and transport artwork for client installations.

  • Prepare/pack artwork for transportation, storage, or shipping.

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications

  • Positive and engaging attitude with a proven ability to build and maintain close-knit client relationships.

  • Proven experience in gallery or fine art sales and client services.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

  • Strong network within the contemporary art market, with some preexisting collector relationships preferred.

  • Passion for fine art and deep understanding of market trends and dynamics.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic computer literacy; basic graphic design knowledge is a plus.

  • Knowledge of preferred art installation and packing methods.

  • Must be able to move and transfer 50+ lbs.

  • Comfortable on a ladder.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, on-site position at our location in Santa Monica, Tuesday-Saturday, 10:30am-5:30pm.

Annual salary is $65,000 + 5% commission on all sales.

Benefits for full-time employees include:

  • Paid personal and vacation days (10 days annually).

  • Paid public holidays and coinciding gallery closures.

  • Paid annual seasonal leave from December 25th-January 2nd.
