Musichead Gallery, a leading photography gallery specializing in iconic and unseen images devoted to music history, is currently seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented Gallery Assistant to join our team. Founded in 1998 by Detroit luminary Sam Milgrom, Musichead has grown from a small storefront to its current location at 7420 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046. We represent over 80 photographers and offer thousands of prints, spanning genres and decades, in a variety of sizes.

As a Gallery Assistant at Musichead Gallery, you will play a crucial role in supporting the gallery director and ensuring the smooth running of our daily operations. This dynamic position requires excellent organizational skills, multitasking abilities, and a passion for music, photography, and the arts. Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the gallery director with client sales, offering exceptional customer service and fostering positive relationships with clients and visitors.

  • Manage and maintain the gallery’s extensive inventory of prints and photographic artwork.

  • Upload and manage data in ArtLogic, ensuring all artwork information is accurate and up-to-date.

  • Conduct regular physical inventory checks and maintain an accurate inventory database.

  • Establish and maintain a well-organized digital filing system for artwork and related documentation.

  • Manage incoming inventory, including receiving, inspecting, and properly storing artworks.

  • Process customer orders, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment.

  • Create and maintain artist consignment lists, ensuring all necessary information is readily available.

  • Assist with marketing initiatives, including social media, email campaigns, and promotional activities.

  • Support event planning, including exhibitions, artist talks, book signings, and concerts.

  • Perform data entry and maintain organized records for gallery operations.

  • Oversee day-to-day gallery management, ensuring a professional and welcoming environment for clients and visitors.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, or a related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a gallery, museum, or similar arts organization, preferably in a gallery or sales assistant role.

Programs & Skills

  • Proficiency in ArtLogic or similar art management software.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with a keen eye for detail.

  • Exceptional customer service skills and a professional demeanor.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • A can-do attitude, a desire to learn and grow, and the ability to adapt to new challenges.

  • Knowledge of fine art photography and music history is a plus.
