Evening Crew Carpenter: Crating Department

Boxart

We are seeking a full-time Evening Crew Carpenter to join our Crating Department.

This is a hands-on production role working primarily in-house at our facility from approximately 12:00 PM–8:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

The Night Crew Carpenter is primarily responsible for preparing crate components and completing production work that supports the following day’s build schedule. This includes cutting plywood and lumber, cutting and fitting foam, preparing materials and components, and building crate sides according to approved cut sheets and production specifications.

The position requires strong woodworking skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining Boxart’s standards for quality, safety, and craftsmanship.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Cutting plywood, lumber, foam, and other materials according to approved cut sheets and production specifications

  • Preparing crate sides and components scheduled for night production

  • Partially or fully assembling crate sides, with or without foam, so that components are ready for day crew assembly and packing

  • Reading and accurately executing cut lists, cut sheets, shop drawings, measurements, and written production instructions

  • Performing precision cuts and fabrication using table saws, miter saws, panel saws, routers, sliders, drills, pneumatic tools, and other standard shop equipment

  • Checking dimensions and workmanship throughout the fabrication process to ensure accuracy and quality

  • Preparing, organizing, labeling, and staging completed components for the following day’s production

  • Logging completed work and labor time by job to support accurate job costing and shift handoff

  • Communicating completed work, outstanding items, questions, and production issues to the Crating Shop Manager and day crew through shop logs, written notes, or shared production systems

  • Performing basic equipment checks and reporting tool issues, blade changes, maintenance needs, or material shortages

  • Maintaining an organized, clean, and safe production environment

  • Sweeping, cleaning, and resetting tools and workstations at the end of the shift

  • Following all established shop safety procedures and proper tool-use practices

  • Working with Crating, Design, Packing, and Production staff as needed to resolve fabrication or production questions

  • Maintaining a consistently high standard of workmanship, recognizing that the crates produced by Boxart are designed to protect valuable and irreplaceable works of art

Requirements

Preference will be given to candidates with professional experience in woodworking, custom fabrication, crating, or a related technical field.

A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience is preferred.

Strong candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong working knowledge of woodworking and fabrication tools, including table saws, miter saws, panel saws, routers, drills, and pneumatic nailers

  • Ability to safely and accurately operate shop machinery and hand tools

  • Ability to read and execute from cut lists, shop drawings, cut sheets, measurements, and basic build specifications

  • Strong measurement and layout skills

  • High attention to detail and dimensional accuracy

  • Strong hands-on fabrication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work efficiently and independently during portions of the shift

  • Ability to prioritize production work and meet established deadlines

  • Good communication and organizational skills

  • Pride in craftsmanship and consistently high standards for finished work

  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and professional shop environment

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. repeatedly and stand, move, bend, and work throughout an eight-hour production shift

Because this position extends beyond the primary daytime production schedule, candidates should be comfortable working independently and maintaining established production, quality, and safety standards with limited supervision during portions of the shift.
