Pay Scale: $90,000 – $120,000, commensurate with experience

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Artist and Director, the Communications Manager will lead the messaging of the Lauren Bon and Metabolic Studio, increasing the awareness and visibility among a range of audiences (arts, nonprofit, civic, general public, etc.) through integrated communications strategies including media relations and public relations. The position is also responsible for other internal and external communications, such as websites, podcasts, newsletters and social media, as well as key messaging, outreach, crisis management, etc.

Successful candidates will have enthusiasm for the studio’s mission, work, programming and knowledge of contemporary art, complimented by a background in communications with a deep understanding for the evolving world of social and digital media.

  • Designs and implements a comprehensive, proactive communications and web strategy that aligns with Metabolic Studio’s goals and supports ongoing growth

  • Works collaboratively to tell the narrative of Metabolic Studio and clearly articulates its mission and values through social media (Instagram, Substack, TikTok, Facebook) and alternative mediums such as newsletters and interactive media

  • Develops and manages the content/media/posts and content schedule on the Metabolic Studio website and Artist website

  • Develops and executes world class communications practices

  • Writes and/or edits a variety of written materials including key messaging documents, portfolios, press releases, press kits, marketing materials, program brochures, boilerplates, etc.

  • Manages key submissions to film festivals, art festivals and conferences, and applications to events and occasions

  • Manages proactive and reactive media relations activities from message development to working with our PR team

  • Coordinates all communications projects; plays lead role in circulating materials for review and approval

  • Handles the distribution of press materials as appropriate via email, wire services, etc. and/or coordinating this with our PR team

  • Manages the activities of communications consultants and PR agency to drive results; directs agency resources and monitor for quality control; provides direct and timely feedback; measures agency deliverables against goals and objectives

  • Leverage existing media relationships as well as develop and cultivate new opportunities with press and influencers

  • Ensures correct messaging is used throughout all channels, internally and with partners

PRIMARY INTERACTIONS:

  • Works closely with Lauren Bon and Metabolic Studio team

  • Works closely with nonprofits, community-based organizations, and other foundations to further the communication goals and priorities of the Studio

  • Works closely with consultants and PR firm

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Deep understanding of the work, vision, mission, and values of Metabolic Studio

  • Ability to quickly gain fluency on all aspects of Lauren Bon and Metabolic Studio’s projects and artworks

  • Public relations background – expert at the strategy, writing, and distribution of press releases

  • Relentless pitching and securing of relevant timely stories

  • Exceptional writing and copyediting skills

  • Previous experience managing internal and external communications

  • Critical thinking ability and sound judgment, with an ability to troubleshoot when necessary

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate to different types of audiences

  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to balance priorities in an environment that requires multi-tasking

  • Familiarity with the arts, nonprofit, and private sectors

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in Public Relations/Communications

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, PR software, and the Adobe Creative Suite
