Architecture Books is an independent bookshop, archive, and cafe in partnership with Community Goods. The space was developed through a shared vision for a welcoming, inviting environment that values community, art and design, curiosity, and good coffee. We are seeking a highly-engaged and knowledgeable bookseller that is passionate about art books, architecture, contemporary art, design, fashion, and more.
Provide a warm and welcoming retail environment that both supports sales and delivers a high-level of customer service and product knowledge.
Developing strong relationships and community within the shop through book-in-hand assistance and intentional conversations centered around art, culture, and printed matter.
Maintain a strong understanding of both in-store publications, exhibitions, and events as well and regional and international arts and culture.
Completing daily operational tasks including but not limited to: processing sales, visual merchandising, upholding safety and security, processing incoming stock and outgoing shipments, and upkeeping cleanliness and organization, taking out trash, gift wrapping books, etc.
Communicate and work closely with owners and bookselling team via text and email.
Assisting with in-store events, including book signings, exhibition openings, and more.
Support cafe-team with front of house procedures and tasks as needed.
Prior retail experience – preferably at a bookstore or arts space.
Specific understanding in arts and publications centered around contemporary art, architecture, design, music, film, photography, and more.
Previous experience in cafe or food service is beneficial.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to handle fast-paced retail, cafe, and event environments.
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to move and handle boxes of books and merchandise.
Flexibility to work varying schedules based on store/cafe needs which may include weekends and evenings.
Dependable attendance and punctuality is required.
This is a part-time role (15-20 weekly hours)
Pay rate of $20.00 + partial eligibility for tips
