We seek an experienced, positive-thinking and organized individual to join our staff as an Art Handling Technician - Crater.

Primary Job Description:

The Art Handling Technician – Crater is responsible for building custom crates to ensure the safe care and transportation of art objects, antiques, high-end furniture, and other fragile materials. This role involves precise fabrication, packing, and problem-solving while adhering to company standards and best practices. The position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Build custom crates and handle, pack, and load artworks, antiques, and high-end furniture in accordance with company standards.

  • Establish, maintain, and complete the daily and weekly crating schedule.

  • Fabricate and prepare crates, including foaming, cutting bolsters, painting, and assembling foam-core boxes.

  • Accurately complete all paperwork and ensure proper labeling of items, packages, and crates.

  • Perform departmental administrative duties, such as generating and distributing daily cut sheets, updating EOS, and other related tasks.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the Crateshop and ancillary areas.

  • Collaborate with Warehouse and Transportation teams to complete assigned tasks.

  • Communicate concerns regarding condition reports, packing/crating orders, schedules, or deadlines to management and account holders.

  • Work closely with Department Heads, Project Managers, and Storage Registrars to ensure crating jobs meet client specifications.

  • Assist the West Coast Crating Manager in monitoring and tracking crating material needs, equipment condition, and maintenance schedules.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding clients’ property and privacy.

  • Execute site visits to determine crating requirements and complete all relevant scouting reports.

  • Perform additional tasks consistent with these responsibilities as needed.

Requirements
  • Familiarity with safe operation of power tools, hand tools, and other shop equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as crouching, bending, squatting, and kneeling.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 100 lbs.

  • Prior experience in crate building preferred; candidates with woodworking backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
