We seek an experienced, positive-thinking and organized individual to join our staff as an Art Handling Technician - Crater.

Primary Job Description:

The Art Handling Technician – Crater is responsible for building custom crates to ensure the safe care and transportation of art objects, antiques, high-end furniture, and other fragile materials. This role involves precise fabrication, packing, and problem-solving while adhering to company standards and best practices. The position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

Build custom crates and handle, pack, and load artworks, antiques, and high-end furniture in accordance with company standards.
Establish, maintain, and complete the daily and weekly crating schedule.
Fabricate and prepare crates, including foaming, cutting bolsters, painting, and assembling foam-core boxes.
Accurately complete all paperwork and ensure proper labeling of items, packages, and crates.
Perform departmental administrative duties, such as generating and distributing daily cut sheets, updating EOS, and other related tasks.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the Crateshop and ancillary areas.
Collaborate with Warehouse and Transportation teams to complete assigned tasks.
Communicate concerns regarding condition reports, packing/crating orders, schedules, or deadlines to management and account holders.
Work closely with Department Heads, Project Managers, and Storage Registrars to ensure crating jobs meet client specifications.
Assist the West Coast Crating Manager in monitoring and tracking crating material needs, equipment condition, and maintenance schedules.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding clients’ property and privacy.
Execute site visits to determine crating requirements and complete all relevant scouting reports.
Perform additional tasks consistent with these responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

Familiarity with safe operation of power tools, hand tools, and other shop equipment.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as crouching, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
Ability to safely lift up to 100 lbs.
Prior experience in crate building preferred; candidates with woodworking backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
