Art Handler and Fabricator: Packing Department

We are seeking a full -time, skilled and reliable Day Crew art handler and fabricator to support the in-house and onsite packing of artwork for transport, exhibitions, storage, preparation, and installation, working from 8:00am to 4:00pm with some variation based on scheduled work done off-site.

The position will have access to a fully equipped carpentry shop, tools, equipment, and materials and will work on a range of custom packing, fabrication, and art-handling projects.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in fabrication, art installation, construction, museum preparation, fine art services, or related technical fields. 

A minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a fabrication studio, art services company, museum, gallery, or similar environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Packing and unpacking artwork in-house and at client locations such as museums, galleries, and private residences

  • Fabricating custom packing, fitting, cushioning, and support solutions for individual artworks

  • Preparing artwork for transport, storage, exhibition, and installation

  • Preparing crates and packing components for upcoming projects

  • Fabricating foam, board, archival, and other custom interior components

  • Preparing and fitting crate interiors

  • Fitting completed packing components and artwork into crates

  • Preparing, organizing, and staging materials for upcoming packing projects

  • Reading and following cut sheets, measurements, packing instructions, and project specifications

  • Taking accurate measurements and documenting packing requirements

  • Working with Packing, Crating, Design, and Production staff to troubleshoot and develop packing solutions

  • Maintaining an organized, clean, and safe production workspace

The position will have access to a fully equipped carpentry and fabrication shop, tools, equipment, and a wide range of packing and specialty materials.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a fabrication studio, art services company, museum, gallery, or similar environment is preferred.

  • Experience using power tools and hand tools such as table saws, band saws, drills, and other standard shop equipment
