3D Printing & Scanning Specialist (Project-Based/Freelance)

Los Angeles–based sculptor David Altmejd is seeking an experienced 3D printing and 3D scanning freelance specialist to work on an upcoming sculpture project.

The selected candidate will work closely with the artist to introduce and integrate 3D technologies into the studio’s sculptural practice.

Contract dates: January 5, 2026–February 2, 2026 (flexible). Full-time or part-time, to be discussed with the selected candidate.

Salary will be determined based on experience.

  • Advise on purchase of equipment

  • Set up and operate 3D printing and scanning equipment, as well as 3D modelling software

  • Introduce and train the artist and studio team in relevant 3D scanning, modeling, and printing techniques

  • Work with 3D software (e.g. MeshLab, ZBrush, Blender, Rhino, or equivalent)

  • Prepare files for 3D printing and oversee test prints

  • Produce a series of 3D-printed objects for artistic use

  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to scanning, modeling, and printing workflows

  • Oversee all 3D printing/scanning/modelling operations for the duration of the project

  • Strong, demonstrated experience with 3D printing, 3D scanning, and 3D modelling

  • Ability to explain technical processes clearly to non-specialists

  • Experience working in an art, design, or fabrication context is a strong plus

  • Self-directed, reliable, and comfortable working in a studio environment

  • Candidate must use their own computer for the duration of the project
